Travel-Related Dengue Virus Case Confirmed on Oʻahu
Hawaii Department of Health Reports New Infection
The Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a travel-related case of dengue virus on Oʻahu. The affected person recently traveled to a region where the virus is prevalent.
DOH teams have been dispatched to conduct mosquito control in the areas where the individual resides to minimize the risk of further transmission.
Dengue virus is a mosquito-borne illness that can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, it can lead to complications such as bleeding, organ damage, and even death.
DOH urges residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing long sleeves and pants, using insect repellent, and keeping their homes and yards free of standing water where mosquitoes can breed.
Residents who develop symptoms of dengue virus should seek medical attention promptly.
