A Different World Sequel Series in Development at Netflix
Focusing on Dwayne and Whitley's Daughter
Get Ready to Revisit Hillman College
Netflix is reportedly bringing back the iconic Hillman College in an exciting sequel series to "A Different World." The streamer is in the early stages of development on the project, which will focus on the daughter of Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.
In the original series, which ran from 1987 to 1993 on NBC, Dwayne and Whitley eventually got married, had successful careers, and had their first child. The sequel series will pick up with their daughter as she navigates her own journey at Hillman College.
Several of the original producers of "A Different World" are attached to the sequel series, including Debbie Allen, who played Dean Dorothy Dandridge on the original show. The series is expected to feature a mix of new and familiar faces.
The development of an "A Different World" sequel series has been in the works for several years. In 2020, Allen revealed that she had been working on a spinoff series for the show with Netflix. However, the project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The sequel series is sure to be a welcome addition to the Netflix lineup and will likely appeal to fans of the original show as well as a new generation of viewers.
